Deterministic Communications and Modern Protection Coordination<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Why the collapse window has compressed from minutes to seconds \u2014 and what that demands of the network.<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t

As inverter-based resources displace synchronous generation, cascade timelines have compressed by two orders of magnitude; the April 2025 Iberian blackout reached collapse in eight seconds. From cascade physics \u2014 not vendor preference \u2014 this paper derives a sub-10-millisecond bound for transmission protection coordination, and shows why statistical cellular bearers cannot meet it. Built on a dozen real events: Iberia, Chile, Czechia, three Brazilian cases, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic. The finding that recurs: monitoring is not coordination.
